Botanical Information
The origin of the Tiger Lily flower (Lilium Lancifolium) lies in Asia, countries such as China or Japan where is has been cultivated for its beauty and for ornamental use. These flowers can grow to be four feet tall and are used in herbal medicine for congestion and sickness. Whilst a cure for such conditions to humans, it's toxic to cats and can lead to a myriad of health problems, culminating in death for unlucky felines.
Often grown from bulbs, Tiger Lilies are herbaceous perennial and prefer wet soil. While easy to grow as wild flowers, due to their origins, avid gardeners recommend that you keep these lilies separate as they often carry viral diseases that can spread to other flowers. Though, they take a bit of special treatment, Tiger Lilies are a beautiful addition to any garden due to their bright colours and unusual spotted patterns.
Tiger Lilies and their meaning
Tiger Lilies are continuously linked with wealth in the language of flowers, not just because in times past, they were so expensive to procure. It has been said that the spots on the lily resemble coins and the more spots, the more wealth that will come your way.
To be given a Tiger Lily, is thought to be a sign that you are of great value to the giver.
In Victorian times, not only were Tiger Lilies a symbol of prosperity and abundance, but of pride too, more in the vein of, 'I am proud of you' and, 'self-respect', than arrogance or conceit. As such, this flower is used as a sign of nobility.

It's a great place to explore and and has first-rate tearooms.
If you happen to find yourself in the county of Gwynedd, you must make time to tour the Rebirth Botanic Garden in Bangor.
